What does a positive or negative amount indicate in a transaction record?

Each transaction record includes multiple fields detailing the impact a transaction has on a GPA.

  • The amount field of a transaction record is always positive, regardless of balance impact.
  • The gpa.impacted_amount field of a transaction record is positive when funds flow into the GPA and negative when funds flow out of the GPA. For example, authorizations have a negative impacted_amount, while refunds and chargebacks have a positive impacted_amount. However, the amount in both cases is positive.

For more information, see Transactions and Balances in the Core API Reference.
